This beast is about 3.5 INCHES long.  What is it?

I think it's a Dobson fly.

Looks just like the evil creature I found a while back that Doctorant ID'd as Megaloptera.

You both are right.  Upon google image searching Megaloptera, I found ones that looked exactly like the one I found.  I also read that their larvae take YEARS to develop.  And after adulthood they've only a few days or even hours to mate before they die.  Geez.

I found one in my basement on my worm bin[I have since moved it upstairs as I don't want those things in with my worms :P]

Actually, that's not a megalopteran at all. It's a stonefly. Means you've got clean rivers.

I find those nasty things at night next to my porch light all the time, usually clip off there mandibles and feed it to my fire belly toads, lol
