1. Location of collection: Saved out of Pool in Simi Valley.
2. Date of collection: 8/3/2014
3. Habitat of collection: I suspect they flew from the near-by mountains.
4. Length (from head to gaster): 11mm.
5. Color, hue, pattern and texture: Completely black, very smooth.

Just caught another one of these queens...

Dang I caught a lot of queens today, and  just out of my own pool alone.

 

4 of these Crematogaster sp.

1 Dorymyrmex insanus

1 Nylanderia sp.1

1 Nylanderia sp.2

1 of these Crematogaster sp. drones, now naturally dead after mating, and soaking to pin up.

 

 

      (By now, the first, and another one of the Crematogaster sp. have shed their wings.

That might be the same large, all black species I find sometimes in OC.

wait... you found tetramorium?? where exactly did you find them here in southern CA

They were just wandering around I guess... I do not have a positive ID, but they have the size, shape, and color.

That park we were at in Menifee last year has Tetramorium spinosum.

The Crematogasters in your area are notoriously hard to pinpoint down to a species.

I know that from trying...

I will take a wild guess after looking at the workers and say either Crematogaster californica, or Crematogaster marioni.
